Make it a habit to set ground rules at the start of any training session.
These rules aren’t just about what participants shouldn’t do but they’re primarily there to encourage positive behaviours and create a safe, productive learning environment.
For example:
👍 SAFETY FIRST – Everyone should feel physically and emotionally safe.
👍 MUTUAL RESPECT – Listen to each other, value different perspectives.
👍 EVERY IDEA IS WORTH SHARING – Encourage contributions without judgment.
Throughout the session, demonstrate how these rules are applied in real situations. If someone acts out of line, gently remind the group WHY it is important that we have them.
Avoid creating rules that limit creativity or restrict participants’ freedom to explore, share, and learn. The goal is to foster engagement, trust, and meaningful interaction.
All the best!
