Are you a Training Specialist?

What Is a Training Specialist?

Training specialists work on behalf of the organisation to create, develop, and carry out training and development programs for the employees.

These specialists need a broad skill set to perform their jobs successfully – which is to help management and other employees learn the information they need to do their jobs.
This may require the training specialist to have:

  • in-depth industry knowledge
  • ability to effectively communicate
  • adaptability to changes and different situation demands
  • creativity in developing training programmes and training materials
What Does a Training Specialist Do?

Training specialists perform a wide variety of tasks daily. Some of the most common include:

  1. Assessing training needs. Training specialists gather information from employees, managers, and other trainers using surveys, interviews, and consultations.
  2. Creating and preparing training materials. After reviewing and creating a wide variety of reference materials, training specialists choose the most appropriate medium, which can include manuals, online learning management systems, and other training related materials.
  3. Training other employees. Specialists train internal employees via on boarding orientation, workshops, and one-on-one sessions using a variety of training techniques.
  4. Handling administrative tasks. Keeping track of training related expenditures, scheduling classes, integrating different learning and performance assessment systems, enrolling employees in public courses, evaluating existing training programmes, and selecting and booking external venues if needed.
  5. Acting as an employee liaison. Training specialists support and mentor new hires while also monitoring existing employees performance and keeping track of employees progress.
  6. Managing training budgets. Most organisations allocate a certain amount of money for their training and development programmes, and it’s up to training specialists to ensure these activities are carried out while remaining within the budget.

If you are currently doing the type of work as mentioned above, you are a “Training Specialist”.

If you would like to equip yourself with the necessary capability and credentials to be a “Training Specialist”, you may want to consider attending our HRD Corp Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and/or our HRD Corp Evaluation on Effectiveness of Training (EET) course.

Alternatively, if you are required to do more internal training sessions, our HRD Corp Train-The-Trainer Certification Course might be of help.
