TNA, Training Needs Analysis
TNA is a big job that involves analysis of training needs. It includes finding reasons, references, standards, data, and identifying trends. The ideal outcome is a complete plan of appropriate intervention recommendations – including non-training interventions, if deemed necessary.
TNI, Training Needs Identification
TNI is part of TNA’s work, but is still relevant if done separately (in isolation). The main thing in TNI is to identify who, what, and when training is needed. The ideal result is in the form of a list of target individuals or groups that are matched with a training program that can help them.
TNE, Training Needs Evaluation
TNE is an activity that is done after training. The main focus is to look at the data and make an evaluation about the effectiveness of the TNA that has been carried out (not an analysis of the effectiveness of the training program, that’s EET, Evaluation on Effectiveness of Training). The ideal outcome is a report that provides justification that the training needs analysis has been carried out correctly and that the recommended training intervention is also correct – it should be clear that there has been improvement as targeted before action to carry out the TNA is taken.
