Choosing the Right Approach: Training vs. Workshop

When determining whether to use a training or workshop approach, it’s essential to consider the objectives and the participants’ readiness.

“When should I choose the Training approach?”

The training approach is ideal when the goal is to ensure that all participants gain a consistent level of knowledge or skill. This method is particularly effective for delivering complex material in a structured, controlled, and organised manner. It’s best suited for situations where participants have a low level of readiness or lack experience and require a solid foundation in the subject matter. The training approach provides a clear path to mastering specific content, making it suitable for building essential skills and knowledge systematically.

“So, when do I choose the Workshop approach?”

On the other hand, the workshop approach is more appropriate when the objective is to explore ideas, develop strategies, or solve problems collaboratively. This method thrives in environments where participants already have experience in the field or topic and are prepared to actively contribute.

Workshops are less about following a structured syllabus and more about fostering discussion, encouraging creativity, and applying practical solutions. This approach is effective when the learning process involves group interaction, idea-sharing, and hands-on activities that lead to innovative outcomes.

The choice between a training or workshop approach depends on the participants’ needs and the desired outcomes. Training is best for structured learning and foundational skills, while workshops excel in collaborative environments where exploration and creativity are key.

Hope that helps.
