Online TTT: Different Modality, Same Learning Journey

“Kalau online, sama impact ke dengan physical?” – This is a common question.

After all, this is a 5-day HRD Corp Train-The-Trainer Certification Course, and the investment is RM2,684. Naturally, anyone considering the programme would want to know whether the online version provides the same value as being in a physical classroom.

The honest answer?

It won’t be the same experience. But different doesn’t automatically mean less.

The online format can be particularly useful for those who have always wanted to take TTT but struggle with the traditional 5-day weekday format.

Maybe work commitments make it difficult to take five consecutive days off.

Maybe being based outside the training location makes travelling and arranging accommodation less convenient.

Or perhaps weekends simply work better. That is why this programme is conducted online via Zoom and split across weekends. But there is another interesting reason to consider the online format.

You don’t just learn about training. You experience being trained online. And for someone preparing to become a trainer, that can be quite valuable.

Throughout the five days, there are opportunities to observe the learning experience from the participant’s perspective.

What keeps participants interested?

What encourages them to participate?

What makes them comfortable enough to speak up?

How does a facilitator bring people into the conversation?

How does a group gradually develop a sense of connection, even when everyone is sitting somewhere different?

These are easy things to overlook when simply attending a course. But when preparing to become a trainer, the learning experience itself becomes something worth observing.

Participants from our previous online sessions have shared that they were initially surprised by how engaged they remained throughout the programme and how they developed a genuine connection with fellow participants despite never being in the same physical room.

One participant had even delayed taking TTT for about a year. After hearing mixed feedback from others, there was some uncertainty about whether the programme would offer much beyond the certification. Eventually, a recommendation encouraged the participant to give it a try.

The biggest takeaway was not simply the content. It was seeing how the knowledge and skills discussed throughout the programme could be applied within the learning experience itself.

That offers an interesting perspective for anyone considering TTT. Because when choosing a training programme, the consideration is not only about what will be taught.

It is also about the opportunity to observe: What does good facilitation feel like from the learner’s side?

And yes, the online version still carries the same assessment requirements:

30% — Examination
60% — 15-minute Mock Training
10% — Attitude & Participation

Passing mark: 75%.

Online participation is therefore not simply about logging in. Participants are expected to attend, keep their cameras on, respond when called upon, participate in discussions, ask questions and engage through the chat.

The modality changes. The expectations don’t.

So perhaps, for anyone still deciding between online and physical learning, the better question is not: “Is online as good as physical?”

Instead, consider: “Which learning experience makes more sense for what is needed right now?”

And for those planning to become trainers: “Would experiencing five days of online facilitation provide insights that cannot be gained from a textbook alone?”

Perhaps it would. Especially for anyone who wants to understand not just what trainers do, but also what it feels like to be on the receiving end of good facilitation.

Online ≠ Lesser. It’s a different learning experience. Different modality. Same certification journey.

Our upcoming online Train-the-Trainer session is happening very soon, 18–20 & 26–27 September via Zoom. If you are keen to join, register via  accessideas.com.my/registration
